Gender Neutral Bathrooms on campus

To address the needs of all members of our University community and to ensure a safe, welcoming and inclusive experience for all, including transgender and gender non-conforming individuals, the University is implementing the following listed restroom accommodations.

WCSU will provide single-occupancy ‘All-Gender’ restrooms throughout the Midtown and Westside campuses.  A listings has been created to designate where all members of the University community can find and access these facilities.

Furthermore, single-sex multi-stall facilities may be accessed by any student, faculty, or staff who identifies with that particular gender identity or expression.  In addition, private, single-occupancy restrooms are available for any individual who seeks added privacy and comfort.  The steps taken are not only to meet our obligations under the law, but also further our mission to respect, provide basic courtesy, and exhibit conduct that creates a positive academic and work environment.

An Online Resource Center has been created to share more information and help answer any questions you may have. The Online Resource Center below includes:

Gender Neutral Housing on campus

Gender-neutral housing refers to a housing option in which two or more students mutually agree to share a multiple-occupancy bedroom, suite, or apartment without regard to the gender of the occupants.  Gender-neutral housing provides students with increased choice in selecting roommates. It gives students additional responsibility for their own room assignments and choice of roommate(s). This practice contributes to a campus climate that is supportive of all students.

Gender Transition Guidelines

At Western, we support workplace transitions and will provide needed guidelines that will tailor to specific needs of a transitioning employee, while specific enough to provide a consistent framework that eliminates confusion and potential mismanagement.

For example, one employee may prefer a quick start in which all his/her co-workers and peers are informed about the transition at the end of the work week, and comes to work the following week presenting in the new/desired gender role. Another employee may prefer a more gradual transition, in which colleagues are notified of the transition plan, but the employee does not actually present in the new gender role for several weeks. However, in both cases, contact with the Chief Diversity Officer and a member of the Human Resources Department will assist a transitioning employee and the employee’s supervisor in order to manage the workplace transition process.
