Western Connecticut State University Department of Nursing (WCSU) welcomes new and returning students, and our community partners to a new academic year. The Department of Nursing prides itself in creating a learning environment that prepares students for a challenging career in nursing. The Nursing Faculty are experts in their fields, with advanced professional degrees from leading educational institutions, as well as specialty certification where appropriate.

We offer four areas of study in nursing: Undergraduate, RN to BS, Masters and Doctoral Studies, allowing for a comprehensive interactive curriculum, engaged learners, emphasis on critical thinking and promoting professionalism in nursing practice. WCSU offers small class sizes and accessible faculty. Our faculty connect with students, which allows for professional dialogue both in the classroom and clinical settings. The WCSU Doctoral Program holds a partnership with Southern Connecticut State University. The fifth cohort starts in the Fall 2020. This program is designed to prepare future nursing faculty for higher education settings. These courses are offered online with a residency requirement once a year.

RN to BS and Masters Programs offer online and hybrid classes.

The Baccalaureate Degree and Master’s Degree Programs in nursing are accredited by the Collegiate Commission on Nursing Education (CCNE) 655 K Street, NW, Suite 750, Washington, DC 20001, 202-887-6791. The Department of Nursing was last accredited in 2008.

Required Background Checks

Due to the requirement by clinical sites in Connecticut for nursing students to have completed background checks PRIOR to beginning a clinical experience, our school has partnered with Connecticut League for Nursing (CLN) to coordinate this service. On occasion clinical agencies may request students to comply with drug testing and fingerprinting.
