Friday, August 23

MOVE-IN DAY

T-SHIRTS
In order to prepare for your first of many traditions at WCSU, collect your Free commemorative LEAP Week T-shirt at Orientation Headquarters on the Midtown Student Center Plaza before noon.
This T-shirt shows pride in your new beginnings at WCSU! It’s created new and unique each year for this special occasion.
Wear the T-shirt during the “Entering the Gates” ceremony, at future sporting events, and on WCSU Wednesdays.

SHUTTLE UPDATE:
The WCSU Shuttle will run Friday through Monday (8/23 – 8/26) between the Midtown campus and the Westside campus, leaving Midtown on the hour starting at 6:00 a.m. and leaving Westside on the half hour. The last bus will leave from the Midtown Student Center at Midnight
The regular schedule starts 8/27/19!

MEALS
Resident
Students have to bring their Student IDs in order to receive meals. Commuter Students have to give their name to cashier in order to receive meals.

7:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.
Colonial Fitness Zone is open – Westside

8:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.

8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Midtown Computer Center and Westside Computer Center are open. Students are welcome to use available computers. Students are also able to print in black and white or in color by swiping their Student ID card.

9:00 a.m. – noon
Resident Student Check-in and Move-in will take place in each student’s residence hall.
Students need to move in during their appointed color-coded move-in time only. Members of various student organizations and athletic teams will be available to assist with luggage.

9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Midtown Student Center Theater is open for students and parents to watch a slideshow presentation of photos from this year’s orientation, and last year’s LEAP Week.

9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
The Campus Bookstore will be open for students to purchase textbooks required for classes and WCSU apparel. The bookstore is located on the Midtown Campus on the first floor of the Student Center.

10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.
Tours of Midtown campus – leave from the Midtown Student Center Plaza. Each tour lasts approx. 1 hour.

10:00 a.m. – noon
BRUNCH, Midtown Student Center Restaurant (Swipe for meal plan students; Cost for others is $10.50)   Complimentary barbeque at 1pm on Science Building Lawn.

10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
The Westside Market Place will be open for students.

10:30 a.m. – noon
Commuter Student Check-in in the Midtown Student Center Plaza (rain site Student Center Lobby). Commuter students do not need to be here early unless they want to take a tour or come for other activities such as the Alumni photo. Main activities for commuters begin with the line-up at noon.

11:30 a.m.
Alumni Legacy Photo – If one of your parents or grandparents is an alum, please join us on the front steps of Old Main for a “Next Generation” photo.

Noon REQUIRED
Assemble for the Entering the Gates ceremony.  Please wear your LEAP Week t-shirt, which you pick up in the Orientation Headquarters tent on the Midtown Student Center Plaza

12:30 p.m. REQUIRED
Entering the Gates ceremony leading directly to the Barbeque on the Science Building Lawn

1:00 – 3:00 p.m. REQUIRED
Barbeque on the Science Building Lawn – Join us for a barbeque immediately following the Entering the Gates ceremony. Enjoy food, music, mingling and photo opportunities.

4:00 – 7:00 p.m.
Dinner at the Midtown Student Center Restaurant and Westside Marketplace
Families are welcome to join the students. Meal plans are active, so resident students need to swipe their card. The cost for family members is $10.50 per person ($6.50 for children 12 and under). Family members should pay at the register in the Westside Marketplace or Midtown Student Center Restaurant. Resident students swipe your card at the cash register in the restaurant and commuter students give cashier your name.  Parents are encouraged to leave after dinner to give their students a chance to settle in.

Saturday, August 24

The Campus Bookstore will be open for students to purchase textbooks required for classes and WCSU apparel. The bookstore is located on the Midtown campus on the first floor of the Student Center.

10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Midtown Student Center Restaurant is open for students; Westside Marketplace is open 10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.

2:00 – 6:00 p.m. COME TO HAVE FUN
RecFest ’19 … Come find us on the Science Building Lawn (rain location will be Berkshire Gym). The theme this year is “water”, so come prepared to get wet! Have fun with slip-and-slide kickball, water wars, water pong, and our photo booth or test your riding skills on the mechanical shark. You can also head into the gym for a friendly game of volleyball or dodgeball. Ice Cream Emergency will be on site from 2-4 p.m. and the BBQ will begin at 4 p.m. So come join us and GET REC’D this fall!

Voices of Students for all new students – Ives Concert Hall,
Orientation Leaders present a series of vignettes to incoming students to introduce them to a variety of issues that they will be facing as they make their transition to college followed by time to talk with OLs about vignettes and ask any other questions students may have.

3:00 – 5:00 p.m. REQUIRED
University 101: WCSU Life Hacks in Warner Hall– this program will introduce a variety of programs and services that are important to student success at WCSU. An introduction in Ives Concert Hall will start at 3:00 p.m. and will be followed by a sequence of approximately ten different program/offices that are sponsoring information tables; here you will have the opportunity to speak with staff about their services. A raffle for a variety of cool prizes will be held at the end of the program for those who have visited each of the information tables.

4:00 – 6:30 p.m.

Tom Varano (Emotion into Art) – Ives Concert Hall
Tom has adopted speed painting mixed with inspirational speaking as an additional form of encouragement. Tom uses fingertips, palms and multiple brushes to paint custom portraits and famous people on a 4 foot by 5 foot canvas in just a matter of minutes. His creations are all choreographed to loud music that is powerful and draws the audience into what is being created on the blank canvas. Tom’s Emotion Into Art™ is described as taking his audience through an amazing journey of excitement, suspense, cheer, motivation and surprise. His ability to captivate his audience and share the experience of color, music, and action is a way to bring people into the world of art, inspiration and creativity.

Downtown Danbury Scavenger Hunt meet in Student Center Theater to then board Trolley, shuttle, vans or walk to your starting point in Downtown Danbury.  This scavenger hunt is more than a hunt, it’s a game and playing is easy.  Walk around downtown and discover all the fun and exciting places this enchanting, diverse neighborhood has to offer that will be you home away from home for the next few years. Go places. Collect a stamp at each of the places you visit and submit your Passport at The Danbury Palace Theatre between 2:30 and 3 p.m. in exchange for tickets to enter into the raffle for great prizes! Colonial Wars is the kickoff event to the yearlong series of events in the Chuck’s Cup program. Each hall will create a banner to represent their team and come together wearing building colors to compete in multiple events including volleyball, dodge ball, tug of war, pie eating contest and much more! Come out on Labor Day to help your Residence Hall win!
