Jennifer Ort MS, RNC MN-N, Department of Nursing

Assistant Professor Jennifer Ort joined the faculty of Western Connecticut State University in the Fall of 2012.  She received her Nursing undergraduate degree from Dominican College, and her Master of Science in Nursing Education from Mercy College.  Jennifer received her lactation certification from UCLA and is also certified by the National Credentialing Council as a Maternal-Newborn Nurse. Currently she attends The Sage Colleges in Albany New York working on her doctoral dissertation towards a Doctorate in Nursing Science.

Prior to becoming a full-time educator Jennifer worked as a registered nurse and lactation consultant on the maternal-newborn unit at White Plains Hospital Center.  In addition, Jennifer developed her lactation practice by implementing a lactation program at United Hospital in Portchester New York to include antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum counseling/education.

During this time, Jennifer also taught in the graduate and undergraduate nursing programs as an Adjunct Professor at Adelphi University, Dominican College, Mercy College and Pace University.  Before coming to West Conn, Jennifer was the Chair for the School of Nursing at Monroe College, where the major accomplishment was to elevate the nursing programs by undertaking curriculum revision and program re-design for re-certification by the State of New York.  With this accomplished the program flourished with increased enrollment and NCLEX pass rates improved.

In addition to teaching, Jennifer is actively involved in the Future of Nursing initiative as an Action Coalition Task Team Member in New York State.   She is the president of Zeta-Omega at-Large Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International, and enjoys volunteering on the Nurse Advisory Council for the New York chapter of the March of Dimes, as well as membership in several other professional organizations.
