Faculty Biographical Sketches

Jeffrey Schlicht, Department of Physical Education

Dr. Jeff Schlicht is an Assistant Professor of Health Promotion and Exercise Sciences. He completed his BA degree in Psychology at the University of California in San Diego, his MA degree in Physical Education at San Diego State University, and his Ph.D. degree in Exercise Science at the University of Connecticut.

His areas of interest and research include the health benefits associated with physical activity, exercise & gerontology, and exercise & people with disabilities. His past research projects have examined the effect of high- and moderate-intensity strength training programs for older adults, and the risks and benefits of stability ball training for older adult populations. He has published several articles in the physical education field, contributesd for several years as an editorial review board member for the American College of Sports Medicine’s Health and Fitness Journal, is a regular columnist for The Bulletin (the journal of the Connecticut Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance), and has presented twice at the national Health & Fitness Summit hosted by the American College of Sports Medicine.

Dr. Schlicht is the creator and director of the Practical Strength Training for Older Adults program, part of the Institute for Holistic Health Studies Western Connecticut State University.  He also works with the non-profit agency Ability Beyond Disabilities, providing exercise programs for their consumers.
