MBA Frequently Asked Questions

Q:  Who teaches the MBA courses?

The instructors are full-time faculty members in the Ancell School of Business who have earned appropriate terminal degrees and who are also active consultants, members of boards of directors, expert witnesses, or former corporate or business executives.

Occasionally a course is taught by an adjunct instructor having an outstanding background and work experience, usually as an executive or upper-level manager in a well-regarded business or organization.

Q:  How many students per class?

Most MBA courses have fewer than 20 students, which promotes classroom interactions, allows for exercises and activities, and provides for access to the faculty.  There are no large lecture hall classes in this program.

Q:  When are MBA courses scheduled?

Our program easily accommodates both part and full time students with courses scheduled during evening hours and on occasional Saturdays. Courses are mainly offered in fall and spring but several are offered during the summer and winter intersession.

Q:  How quickly can the MBA program be completed?

Fifteen (15) months is probably the shortest possible period for completing the program if all prerequisites are met upon admission.  Most student complete their MBA degree in 1 ½ – 4 years.

Q:  Is the MBA program accredited?

WCSU is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC), our regional accrediting body. All WCSU programs are licensed and reviewed by the State of Connecticut.

Q:  Where and what hours do MBA classes meet?

All MBA classes meet in the Classroom building on our convenient Westside Campus (off Exit 4 of I-84).  The adjoining Westside Campus Center provides dining and other amenities, including a coffee bar.

Most MBA classes meet for 2 ½ hours one evening each week (Monday through Thursday) for 15 or 16 weeks:

    • 5:25 to 7:55 PM for the majority of the courses, and

    • 8:00 to 10:30 PM for the remaining courses.

Most Summer MBA classes meet three evenings per week for five (5) weeks during May-June or July.

Compressed courses (5 full days in one week, for example) and online courses are occasionally offered during the January and May intersessions.

Q:  Is there an exception to the Graduate Management Admissions Test requirement?

Yes, if you have earned a post-graduate degree (for example, a Master’s degree, a JD degree), or have a GPA for all prior coursework >= 3.33, the GMAT requirement is waived.

Q:  What is the minimum grade point average and the minimum GMAT score required for admission to the MBA program?

There is no minimum GPA or minimum GMAT score.  We construct an admissions score by combining your total GMAT score and your total undergraduate GPA based on all courses at all schools you attended The higher your GPA, the lower the GMAT score you need.  The lower your GPA, the higher the GMAT score you need.  You can discuss your particular case with the MBA Coordinator.

Q:  Can I transfer graduate credits into the MBA program?

Yes, graduate courses taken at other schools may be transferable to WCSU’s MBA program.  The limit on transfer credits is twelve.  Please see http://staging.www.wcsu.edu/mba/admissreq.asp.  You should meet with the MBA Coordinator to discuss your situation.
