Biographical Information

Kim M. Tassinari is an Assistant Professor of Counseling in the Education and Educational Psychology Department. She received her Ph.D. in Counselor Education at Montclair State University in 2017. Dr. Tassinari completed a M.A. in School Counseling at Fairfield University in 2006, and a B.A. in Child Study at St. Joseph’s College in 1991. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor in CT and holds a School Counseling certification in New York State and Connecticut. She has taught as an adjunct professor at Montclair State University before moving on to Western Connecticut State University. She has presented at national conferences and served at the local, state, and national levels, primarily on topics related to mental health and caregiving. She is a professional member of the American Counseling Association (ACA), Association for Adult Development and Aging, American School Counseling Association, and other professional associations. She published her first book chapter in 2015, and continues to work on research related to caregiving, trauma, and gatekeeping practices in counselor education. Dr. Tassinari maintains a small clinical practice in Connecticut and continues to serve as co-chair of the Professional Standards Committee of the American Counseling Association. She enjoys leisure time with family, friends, and outdoor activities including sailing, paddling, and hiking.
