 Our Mission

As ARMs, we encourage residents to balance academics and everyday life.  With the assistance of our peers and campus resources, we create opportunities that support ongoing success.

Welcome to the ARM Academic Success Spot. As you know, each of your buildings has at least one ARM, or Academic Resource Mentor. But there are lots of you, and they can’t be everywhere at once, so we’ve created this page to provide you with some resources that you can access when your ARM isn’t there to help.

ARMs are Academic Resource Mentors — peers whose goal is to help you find the information, locate the resources, and connect you to people who can help you in your academic endeavors. They provide academic and life skills programming, too. ARMs have office hours in your halls, when you can see them to get assistance. They are students, just like you! They can also help you touch base with PASS members, student volunteers who offer tutoring or assistance in subjects they do well in.

We’re sure you’ll see your ARM around in the building, but just in case, here are the ARMs for 2017-18 (scroll down!):

 Who Am I?

 Where Am I?

Michael Newman

Centennial

Hall

My name is Michael Newman. I am a senior Music Education Major with a concentration in voice. I am very passionate about being inclusive and learning as much as I can from everyone. I hope to get my graduate degree in higher ed with a concentration in women, gender, and sexuality studies. As for now I will continue making people feel safe around me and practice my piano skills.

Maggie Walsh

Centennial

Hall

Hi! My name is Maggie and I am a junior here at Western. My major is Music Education with a concentration in secondary chorus.

Academically, my strongest subjects are writing, music theory, and a little math. If I had a superpower I would be able to control the energy in a room.

I can’t wait to see what this semester brings!

Caitlyn Barry

Hi!  My name is Caitie, and I am a senior, double majoring in Psychology and Political Science.  I love meeting new people, volunteering and staying busy in a few different extracurriculars!  Some organizations I’m involved in are Fraternity and Sorority Life, WXCI, and PAC.  If you are ever looking for something to do on campus, I can always point you in a good direction!

I am super excited to be Grasso’s ARM this academic year!  I will be available for academic coaching and any questions you might have. If I don’t have the answer, I promise to try my hardest to find the person who does!!

I wish everyone their best semester yet! 🙂

Academically my strongest subjects are English, history, a little bit of science, and a sprinkle of math.  I am always around on campus, so if you need any help, I am here.  Also, if you see me don’t be afraid to say hi.

Angela

Nicastro

Pinney

Hall

Hi! My name is Angela Nicastro, and this will be my second year being an ARM in Pinney Hall. I am currently a senior majoring in Audio and Music Production, with a concentration on clarinet. I currently play the bass clarinet in WCSU’s Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and small ensembles throughout the year!

I am a sucker for horror movies, my favorite being Scream, and I hope to have a career in film scoring in the future, as I honestly listen to nothing but movie soundtracks with How to Train Your Dragon being my all-time favorite.

I can be very outgoing and will help you with anything you need to the best of my ability, from academic issues to personal problems, I am here for you. Don’t hesitate to knock on my door or stop me if you see me to say hi, as I’d love to hear from you!

Audrey Redpath

 Pinney

Hall

My name is Audrey, but you can call me Red if you see me around. I’m a Journalism major pursuing a minor in JLA. I hope to get my graduate’s degree in Investigative Journalism and work on the crime beat at a newspaper after graduation. I love horror movies and narrative beat ‘em up games like God of War.

I originally dropped out of WCSU after struggling – and failing – my first semester, but I came back and fought for a strong GPA and great relationships within my department. My focus is on coaching and ‘academic first aid,’ so please reach out to me if you’re struggling with a class or feeling overwhelmed. My strongest areas are Writing Intensive courses, Computer Science, and History/Political Theory.
