Annual Health and Wellness Fair

Bill Williams Gym in Berkshire HallThe Institute for Holistic Health Studies has sponsored twelve annual Health and Wellness Fairs. These health fairs bring together health and wellness practitioners from across the region and state and WCSU student health and wellness services to showcase opportunities to enhance and protect health. In addition, students in the Health Promotion Studies program exhibit their service learning projects and provide fun activities for attendees. The health fairs have varied over the years and have included exhibits, presentations, a film screening, 5K walk-run events, yoga, tai chi and drumming demonstrations, and more. Reiki practitioners and massage therapists have donated their time to provide free reiki sessions and massages.

SUMMER 2016

TAI CHI TEACHER TRAINING METHODS PROGRAM

The Institute for Holistic Health Studies at Western Connecticut State University, in partnership with the International Yang Family Tai Chi Chuan Association, presented a Tai Chi Teacher Certification program. on July 22-27, 2016, at the Westside Campus of Western Connecticut State University. The 6th generation Yang Family Grandmaster Yang Jun presented lectures and led practice in the 10 movement had form. He was assisted by faculty from the Teachers Academy of International Yang Family Tai Chi Chuan Association, This Teacher Training Methods program consisted of three full days of lecture and practice with Grandmaster Yang Jun followed by two full days of an academic program which included instruction in Anatomy, Body Mechanics, Chinese Terminology, Pedagogy, Five Element Theory, and Introduction to Chinese Medicine. At the conclusion of the program, participants had the opportunity to earn tai chi trainer or coach certification, and join an international association of tai chi teachers.
Christel Autuori, director of the Institute for Holistic Health Studies, participated in the program and also presented the lectures on Five Element Theory and Introduction to Chinese Medicine.

FALL 2015

The Fall, 2015 Wellness Wednesday series included presentations on: Creating Your Own Blue Zone with healthy lifestyles, Healing with Essential Oils, The Vital Signs of Wellbeing, Mind/Body Practices, and Whole Food Nutrition. These workshops are FREE and open to WCSU students, faculty and staff, and the general public.
