#ichoseWCSU because I wanted to be in a school that offered great academic programs as well as the opportunity to be involved in different clubs and organizations. WCSU is a place with a diverse student body where you feel welcome and can be yourself; everyone is willing to help you, and the best part is that it’s affordable.

Words of Wisdom:Time goes by faster than you think and you can’t go back and fix mistakes. All you can do is move forward, and if it takes more than four years it’s okay. Enjoy your time, college is about having fun and experiencing new things, but most importantly it’s to learn and leave being a more knowledgeable person that contributes to society. Last thing, ALWAYS BE YOURSELF ☺!!

#ichoseWCSU I chose WestConn because it reminded me a lot of my small, private high school. With small classes, it is easier to get to know your professors and vice versa. There is a sense of familiarity and friendliness on campus because of the camaraderie, which really makes WestConn feel like a true second home. I also love all of the opportunities WestConn has to offer; I feel like a big fish in a small pond rather than a small fish in a big ocean.

Words of Wisdom: Take classes that you are interested in especially if your major is undecided. Get involved as soon as possible, but prioritize and balance your responsibilities and personal life. Most importantly, make the most of your college experience, this is your home for the next four years and it goes by SO fast.

“Twenty years from now [or four years from now when you graduate] you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” -Mark Twain

Jala Cooke

#ichoseWCSU initially to stay closer to home which is the reason for many. But once I started here, I had no regrets with my decision. I have met so many incredible people and made so many great connections. I truly have no doubt that this is my place.

Words of Wisdom: Don’t pass up opportunities. There are so many ways to get involved on campus and it really makes your college experience what it is meant to be. Everyone is going to tell you this but that’s just because it’s what we have learned from experience and it’s wildly accurate.

James Cantafio

Hometown: Hamden, CT

Major: Meteorology

Resident

School Year: Junior

#ichoseWCSU because it is the only university in the state of Connecticut that offers an undergraduate meteorology program, it has small campus and class sizes, it is highly affordable, and its Honors program is highly supportive of its students, offering a wide variety of academic and community service opportunities.

Words of Wisdom: Spend your first year exploring what the university has to offer! Whether you’re considering taking on minors, attending club meetings, running for an officer and/or executive board position, seeking volunteer hours and/or employment, or even starting a campus-wide initiative, the hardest step is overcoming your fear of trying. Some things may not stick–in fact, most may not! However, it’s the few things that you narrow your focus on, the things that you are most passionate about, that will shape your experiences at this university and beyond.
