Letter to Prospective Students

Dear Registered Nurse:

Thank you for your inquiry regarding the degree-completion program at Western Connecticut State University (WCSU) at Waterbury. I am sending information that will help you to get started on your studies with us. WCSU offers courses for the RN-BS program at the Waterbury (Naugatuck Valley Community College) campus. Faculty teaching in the program are members of WCSU’s faculty from the Department of Nursing.

Our program builds on nurses’ previous nursing education and respects the knowledge they have developed in their practice experiences. The two clinical experiences required for the degree (NUR 330, Nursing in the Community and NUR 375, Professional Nursing Role Development) are designed in collaboration with instructors to ensure an enriching experience that will augment each nurse’s current nursing expertise in the clinical area. The Human Health Experience and Nursing Practice (NUR 336) introduces concepts in holistic nursing practice and Pharmacology, Pathophysiology, and Nursing Practice (NUR 322) expand knowledge in the ever-changing field of pharmacology and diagnostic modalities. Students must complete a minimum of 30 semester hours in courses offered through WCSU, including 28 semester hours of required NUR labeled courses, in order to receive a degree from the university.
