Timpani

1. 1. Basic technique: strokes, rolls and tuning basic intervals (fourths and fifths)
   2. Movement from a Sonata or Concerto ( Beck, Carter, etc.)

Drum Set

1. 1. Demonstrate basic technique in several styles (swing, latin, funk, etc.)
   2. Demonstrate basic snare drum technique (Rudiments from PAS List)
   3. Two of the following tunes (or similar tunes): 1. Straight No Chaser by Thelonius Monk; 2. Satin Doll by Duke Ellington; 3. Blue Bossa by Kenny Dorham; 4. Oleo by Sonny Rollins; 5. Ladybird by Tadd Dameron; 6. Tune-Up by Miles Davis. Play melody on drums and comp for other soloists, trade fours.

Keyboard/Strings
Piano

1. 1. 12 major scales and arpeggios (two hands), four octaves
   2. Perform from memory, three contrasting solo classical selections. One selection should be by J.S. Bach [For Example: 1) A Prelude or Invention by J.S. Bach; 2) A Sonata by Haydn, Mozart, Schubert, or Beethoven; 3) A selection from the romantic, impressionistic or contemporary periods.]

WCSU is no longer accepting students with organ as their major instrument.

Classical Guitar

   2. Sor, Aguado or Giuliani etude of easy to intermediate level, preferably memorized. (Comparable etude of Brouwer or Garcia)
   3. Sight read from excerpts of ‘Sight Reading For Guitar’ by Richard Benedict. (Vol 1)

Jazz Guitar

1. 1. 12 major scales and arpeggios, two octaves
   2. A solo transcription from the Charlie Parker Omnibook
   3. Sightreading
   4. Two of the following tunes (or similar tunes):
      1. Straight No Chaser by Thelonius Monk;
      2. Satin Doll by Duke Ellington;
      3. Blue Bossa by Kenny Dorham;
      4. Oleo by Sonny Rollins;
      5. Ladybird by Tadd Dameron;
      6. Tune-Up by Miles Davis

Voice

1. 1. Prepare at least two memorized songs in contrasting styles; one in English and one in a foreign language.
   2. Sight sing, with reasonable accuracy, a simple vocal melody.
   3. NOTE: an accompanist will be provided for you.
