The Change of Income Review / Professional Judgement (PJ) process is used to reevaluate financial aid eligibility based upon special circumstances that have affected a family’s income. When there are extenuating circumstances that impact federal student aid eligibility, the Office of Financial Aid may exercise professional judgement on a case by case basis.
Reviews are considered after a student has been offered their financial aid package.
To expedite the Change of Income Review process, we have partnered with Inceptia and will use the PJ Advisor online portal. PJ Advisor is an accessible, intuitive tool that will guide you through the process to request a professional judgement review.
Start your request by accessing the PJ Advisor for the appropriate academic year. Reviews begin after May 1.
You (or a parent, spouse, or legal guardian) will need to do the following*:
* Dependent students who provided parental information on the FAFSA are required to have one parent signature on the signature page once all documentation has been submitted.
Upon receipt of all required documents, Western Connecticut State University will conduct a preliminary review to ensure the submission is accurate and complete. You will be notified via email if there are any questions or if any additional documentation is required. Once the submission is verified as complete, the Office of Financial Aid will review for final determination and contact you with the results.
Submission of a Change of Income Review request does not guarantee a change in eligibility or additional financial assistance.
NOTE: The deadline for submitting a 2025-2026 Change of Income Review request is April 15, 2026.
If you have any questions about the appeal process, please contact us at 203-837-8580 or wcsufinancialaid@wcsu.edu.
